How to Make a 'Twisted' Pen Tidy from an Old Tin Can

Do you want tidier kids? Make them this “twisted” tin can pen tidy using a unique printable label.

Well… what kid wouldn’t want to put their pens into a tin can pen tidy that makes the pens look twisted?

All you need to do is print out my label design, and wrap it around a tin can… a 5 minute job… surely a tidy desk is worth that?

Step by Step Guide

First, eat the tin of baked beans (it’s nice on toast) and then clean the tin and remove the label.

Step 1: Download the label artwork and print it onto glossy photo paper.

Step 2: Trim it to size, and then glue it around the empty tin can.

Please note: The following device lifts the pens higher, and keeps them upright, which helps with the visual illusion.

Step 3: To stop the pens tilting over, make an insert from 4 rectangular pieces of card glued together to form a cross.

Step 4: Cut a long strip of card with glue tabs along one edge.

Step 5: Glue it onto a card disc that is slightly smaller than the diameter of the can.

Step 6: Glue the insert onto the raised base and lower them both into the tin can.

Now all you need to do is add pens, try and fill it up, it helps the pens stand upright which creates a better effect.

1. One empty tin can
2. A4 glossy photo paper
3. A4 sheet of card (210gsm)
4. Paper glue
5. Scissors
6. Compass and ruler

You can make something cool by doing nothing more than wrapping an object with a distinctive label! Try creating your own label… draw a design onto plain paper and then scan or copy it onto glossy photo paper.
